Tip of the Month:
I often get asked about how to stay mentally tough during a match
when playing recreationally. That’s a great question because
it is very hard to do. I have always played better in tournament
competition than I have at the club but here is a list of some
things that can help keep you focused even when playing with others
that are not as competitive.
Play every point-another words, don’t let your guard down.
Every point counts. If you are serving, concentrate on your serve.
If you are receiving envision a perfect return of serve.
Be Mentally Prepared-determine that you are going to win and have
that burning desire. This is especially true even if you are playing
someone better than you.
SET A GOAL- pick a part of your game that you need to work on
and do so during the match. BUT don’t give up too many points
if it doesn’t work, you will just get frustrated.
Prepare physically and mentally just as you would if you were
playing in a tournament.
Prepare to have fun and enjoy yourself while playing. You can’t
win if you are not having fun!
