For more than 100
years, the Missouri Athletic Club has been an important aspect
of the St. Louis community. Last year the MAC developed a way
for members to give time and resources back to the city. The
Board of Governors, in conjunction with the Club Life Committee,
developed a charity program that allows members to donate to
three area organizations. Each year, the MAC Charitable Society
will select three beneficiaries. During its second year, in
2007, the CWC donated more than $10,500 to its three charities:
Places for People, Dream for a Day and Foster and Adoptive Care
Coalition. Checks were delivered in January. 2008 donations
are being collected for:
SunnyHill
Adventures
Sherwood
Forest Camp Service
Covenant
House
Sunnyhill Adventures is a camping program
that offers campers exciting, educational experiences for children
and adults with and without developmental disabilities. Sherwood
Forest Camp Service provides key supports and opportunities
to economically disadvantaged children to help them achieve
long-term success as adults through summer camps. Covenant House
provides shelter and supportive services to homeless, runaway
and at risk youth ages 16-21, an age group too old for children's
services, yet too young and inappropriate for adult services.
Money is collected monthly and will be held in escrow until January of the following year, at which time the collections will be divided equally and delivered to the three deserving organizations. You choose how little or how much you would like to give. Your monthly donation will be added to your MAC statement.
Your input on needy organizations is always welcome. Let St. Louis know that one of its oldest clubs cares about its community. Please check the amount you would like to donate and return the enclosed form to the Missouri Athletic Club. The amount will be reflected on your monthly statement.
If you have any additional ideas to enhance the success of this program, or for information regarding your donation, contact Sam Hopmeier, 10/10 Club Chairman, by e-mail at hopmeier@aol.com or phone 314-434-5266.
