A longtime favorite at the West Clubhouse is back in the lineup.
Following a renovation that began May 11, the Stan Musial Grille welcomed members for a soft reopening Aug. 5 before fully reopening Aug. 7. The redesigned space offers an updated casual environment where members can feel equally comfortable holding a business meeting, gathering for a family dinner, or catching a game with friends.
The most significant changes were made to open the room and improve its flexibility. The large trophy case that previously separated the bar from the dining area was removed, along with several smaller wing walls and half walls that divided the space. The result is a more open, adaptable layout with a stronger connection between the bar and dining areas.
New décor, an updated color palette and a reconfigured seating plan further refresh the grille while maintaining the comfortable, approachable atmosphere members have come to know. Early response has been enthusiastic, with members particularly complimenting the room’s openness, décor and color scheme.
The renovation also provided an opportunity to take a more intentional approach to the Stan Musial memorabilia displayed throughout the grille. Members of the Musial family worked with the designer to review the collection and identify the pieces with the greatest significance to Stan and his family. The resulting display places greater emphasis on those meaningful connections rather than memorabilia collected from outside sources.
One particularly distinctive feature will be “Stan’s Corner.” A specific pattern within the new table arrangement helps the table stand apart, while additional design elements will further distinguish the space and tell its story.
Chef Brian Hardesty has introduced five new dinner selections centered on classic comfort food, plus “Stan’s Favorite,” a tribute to the hot ham and cheese sandwich Musial enjoyed at the Club.
Based closely on his original order, the sandwich features griddled Berkshire ham, American cheese, and grilled sourdough. While Chef Brian’s choice of high-quality Berkshire ham adds a refined touch, the ingredients and preparation remain true to the familiar favorite enjoyed by one of the most beloved figures in St. Louis sports history.
It is a fitting addition to a restaurant that has always carried more than Musial’s name. The grille celebrates the unassuming, welcoming spirit associated with “The Man” while continuing to serve as an easy gathering place for families, athletes and members looking to enjoy a meal after a workout or watch a favorite team take the field.
An official ribbon-cutting ceremony will formally mark the grille’s next chapter following the completion of Stan’s Corner. Additional details will be shared with members as they become available.
